WANGOOM - high performance farm house, warrnambool
Located in the serene rural setting of Wangoom, this three-bedroom farmhouse is a prime example of sustainable architecture designed for the diverse climate of the Great Ocean Road region. The project focuses on high functionality within a small, environmentally responsible footprint.
As architects serving Warrnambool, Port Fairy, and the Surf Coast, our goal was to create a flexible space that enables the family to customize their home according to evolving needs. The design strategy prioritizes passive solar principles—a cornerstone of our rural and coastal homes.
Key Sustainable Features:
Passive Heating & Cooling: Large northern windows with precise external shading allows winter sun to infiltrate deeply into the floor plan while blocking the harsh summer sun.
Connection to Landscape: The layout maintains a clear visual connection with the rolling rural environment, blurring the lines between indoor living and the outdoors.
Efficient Living: By keeping the footprint small, we reduced material usage and energy consumption, proving that modern rural architecture can be both luxurious and responsible.
